No one told me Idris Elba was on The Office

For my Fem Theory oral presentation/paper I was going to use an article about Chris Brown and the reception he’s been receiving from young women (like those tweets that he could beat them). When I got more clarification on the project I felt less at ease with that topic. Overall, I never really felt like I had much to go on. I mean, there is PLENTY to go on, but we have to use the theories that we’ve read so far in our analysis and one of the main sources I wanted to work with is from a completely different class and I was going to try to subtly work it in, but I’d rather not.

So, I decided I will be working with “Girl” and other words that are aligned with femininity that are often used as insults when thrown at men. I have two fairly recent examples (they need to be somewhat recent) and I think it’ll work just fine. I can also easily apply both the “Why Women Need the Goddess” essay we read (although I am still so tempted to tie in the Radford Ruether essay I wanted to use for the C.Brown idea. It’s just such a good piece!) and The Dread of Women piece. Also, maybe Backlash…maybe. Oooh, I could also use the Ortner “Is Female to Male as Nature is to Culture”. YES. I feel so much more motivated now.

I texted Blake to tell him and while I was putting my information into the paypal page he sent me a text saying “no no no no no” and then called me to make sure I didn’t do it. I guess he got the guy at the record store he always goes to to put in a special order and rush it for my birthday gift. Awwww

Although, I just looked at a tab I had opened which was telling me what the conversion of 18 pounds was. And upon seeing that amount in dollars I don’t think I would’ve bought the album anyway. 

The other day Blake told me not to buy anything for myself until Tuesday. I just had no clue this would’ve been what he’d buy! 

Just had a coffee/tea meeting with my Caribbean professor from last semester

it went well. Last semester, on the last day, she had said we should get together because I’m one of the few younger people she could see hanging out with. I was obviously flattered, but my paranoia/self-consciousness made me think I wouldn’t actually e-mail her to get together. Well, since I’m trying to just do better this year and it is January, the month of improvement, I decided to give it a shot. So I e-mailed her last week and we set a meeting for today. I was pretty nervous. I figured that after she hung out with me she’d realize she was so so so wrong. But, at the end she said we should do it again, at least once a month.

Yay! See, I need to stop assuming that people will not enjoy my company/like me/find me interesting. I just feel like people who don’t know me well find me so interesting (or so they say) but I feel like if they were to get to know me they’d realize I was just less than average, boring, uninteresting, etc. These assumptions make it difficult for me to try and meet new people or get together with people I’m somewhat acquainted with. 

I’m happy it went well. I’m proud of myself for going through with it. Just like I’m proud of myself for going to AS220 today for the Slam/Encyclopedia Show/Open Mic tonight all by myself. Maybe someday I’ll be able to be proud of myself for going to a show and talking up someone and making a friend that way. BUT LITTLE STEPS DESERVE CREDIT, TOO!

I had *just* given up and went to http://toys.tumblrist.com which I had bookmarked sometime last year or something, but I prefer trntbl’s layout. Thank you thank you thank you, that’s the website I’ve been looking for. I am now bookmarking it so this doesn’t happen again.

WATER MARBLING NAILS!!!!

Ahh!! It’s so easy and pretty. After watching a tutorial I decided to just fool around and try it with a few nails. All of my nails are dark blue. I tried marbling with blue and green, but the colors just didnt work well together. I then marbled with a watermelon color and my green and IT CAME OUT AWESOME! My cell phone is taking crappy photos so I can’t show ya’ll, but it’s so easy and fun (but a bit messy)
